Best Motability cars 2025

The Motability scheme is one of Europe’s biggest fleet operators, providing vehicles to around 860,000 disabled people across the UK.

It’s a charitable organisation, working alongside the UK government to enable disabled people receiving a mobility allowance to exchange it for a lease on a new car. This provides much needed independence, allowing them to easily access work, education and healthcare.

The scheme, founded in 1977, is now so successful that it was estimated that one in five new cars went to Motability in 2024.

So, what are the best and most popular cars on Motability today? We’ve compiled data supplied from the scheme showing what cars customers are choosing the most in 2025.

All these cars can be installed with features such as swivelling seats, hoists, steering aids and hand controls. These ensure many disabilities can be catered for, making the most of your mobility allowance.

Best Motability Cars 2025: the shortlist

1. Peugeot 2008

Power: Petrol, electric

We can see why the Peugeot 2008 is the most popular car on the Motability scheme so far this year. Stylish, well-equipped and above all affordable, the 2008 also has a classy interior design, comfortable ride and punchy yet fuel-efficient petrol engine – or the option of the electric e-2008 with a range of up to 252 miles. Its small SUV shape also gives easy entry and egress along with good forward visibility , too.

2. Peugeot 3008

Power: Petrol, plug-in hybrid, electric

The Peugeot 3008 adapts the qualities of its smaller sibling in a larger, more family-friendly package. It’s striking to look at inside and out, with a premium cabin feel and plenty of technology on board. It’s a great cruiser, too, thanks to low noise levels and efficient petrol or plug-in hybrid engines, while the electric Peugeot e-3008 offers an impressive Long Range option promising up to 435 miles on a charge.

3. Volvo XC40

Power: Petrol, electric

The Volvo XC40 is a long-lived success for the Swedish brand. It’s been around with only minor changes since 2017, but remains hugely popular thanks to its blend of style, comfort, practicality and safety. It’s also very easy to drive and has strong all-round visibility, while despite its compact size there’s space for a family. The electric version, called the EC40, offers great performance, too.

4. Vauxhall Corsa

Power: Petrol, electric

With the Corsa the most popular of three Vauxhalls on this list, it’s clear that the Luton brand’s gimmick-free, good value offerings are chiming with Motability customers. The latest Corsa is by no means the flashiest or most fun to drive small car, but with attractive pricing, a well-equipped and easy-to-use interior and the option of frugal petrol and green electric power, it’s a solid all-rounder.

5. MG HS

Power: Petrol, plug-in hybrid

Need a practical, capable SUV on a budget? The MG HS is a strong option, particularly the latest model with its plentiful standard equipment, easy driving experience and surprisingly plush interior for the price. The impressive plug-in hybrid version is the real star of the show, with excellent performance combined with a range on a charge of up to 75 miles.

6. Volkswagen ID.4

Power: Electric

Although three-quarters of Motability customers drive petrol or diesel cars, the number choosing to go electric is rapidly increasing. It seems the Volkswagen ID.4 is one of the most popular EVs on the scheme, blending a comfortable and easy drive with lots of space for passengers and plenty of room for an unfolded wheelchair. A range on a charge of up to 347 miles is another draw.

7. Nissan Juke

Power: Petrol, hybrid

The Juke is another sales smash from Nissan, and although this current model is advancing in years it’s still a very popular option. It’s got a good safety rating, drives decently well and comes with lots of standard features for the money, although there are more practical SUV options here. The easy to drive Hybrid model is worth considering.

8. Vauxhall Mokka

Power: Petrol, electric

Looking for a smart-looking, no-nonsense small SUV? A lot of Motability customers have chosen the Vauxhall Mokka for its blend of punchy yet fuel-sipping engines, good standard kit tally and strong refinement for the money. Keen pricing keeps it competitive with newer rivals, while the Mokka Electric brings EV power with minimal fuss.

9. Nissan Qashqai

Power: Petrol, hybrid

The Nissan Qashqai is one of the most popular cars in Britain and has been for years, so it’s no surprise to see it feature in this list. It’s a top-notch all-rounder in its latest form, with a surprisingly classy interior, good practicality, a well-sorted driving experience and affordable prices. The clever e-Power hybrid is our pick for its blend of performance, smoothness and efficiency.

10. Vauxhall Grandland

Power: Petrol, electric

The latest Vauxhall Grandland is a big upgrade over the previous model in terms of desirability, quality and space. Behind its smart styling lies a well-equipped cabin brimming with easy-to-use tech, plus enough room for all the family to get comfortable. It doesn’t have a plug-in hybrid option like the related Peugeot 3008, but the easy to drive Grandland Electric is a good value EV.
