About Sainsbury's fuel
Starting in 1974, Sainsburys has been selling petrol and diesel to drivers across the UK, and there are now over 300 locations.
Although they were originally operated and marketed as ‘Jet’ stations, from 1980 they were operating under the Sainsbury’s brand.
For the next 24 years they sourced and sold fuel themselves, until BP became the primary source for petrol and diesel.
This deal came to an end in 2009, and the company has been sourcing and selling its own fuel for the past 15 years.
Sainsbury’s are also the first of the major supermarkets to provide electric car charging points.
In recent years, the supermarket has pledged to not supply Russian fuel at their stations, to ‘Stand United’ with the Ukrainian people.
Last year, the UK Petrol Retailers Association Market Review stated that Sainsbury’s had 10% market share of the fuel sold at UK forecourts.
