A modern day supercar, with, says expert reviewer Andrew Frankel, more than a nod to Jaguar's classic British heritage
Jaguar F-Type V6S
This model from £67,520
It’s been around 40 years since the last E-Type rolled off the line and thoughts turned to what kind of car might replace it. It’s been a long wait, but one drive in the F-Type shows beyond a doubt that it’s been worth it.
Like the best Jaguars, it uses ultra-modern technology in a very traditional context, so like the E-Type the F-Type is a strict two-seater with a big engine up front and wheels driven only at the back. But because, unlike any rival, it’s built around an aluminium monocoque structure, it’s light, stiff and a riot to drive.
There are three versions: an entry level V6, a V6S with extra power and a preposterously fast and expensive V8S; but it’s the V6S that has the best balance of power and handling, creating a car that’s not only gorgeous to look at and even better to listen to but also devastatingly effective and fun point to point. In other words, exactly what a modern Jaguar convertible and rather tardy E-Type replacement should be.
